FRIDAY FUNNY ON THURSDAY

Tomorrow is Friday but still Thursday so I'm posting tomorrow's funny anyway cause I be sleepy, too sleepy to wait till midnight. Yawning.

An Indian walks into a cafe with a shotgun
In one hand pulling a male buffalo with the other.
He says to the waiter: "Want coffee."

The waiter says, "Sure, Chief. Coming right up."

He gets the Indian a tall mug of coffee.....
The Indian drinks the coffee down,
Turns and blasts the buffalo with the shotgun,
Causing parts of the animal to splatter everywhere and walks out.

The next morning the Indian returns.
He has his shotgun in one hand, pulling
Another male buffalo with the other.
He walks up to the counter and says to
The waiter: "Want coffee."

The waiter says, "Whoa, Tonto!
We're still cleaning up your mess from yesterday.
What was all that about, anyway?"

The Indian smiles and proudly says,
"Training for position in United States Congress:
Come in, drink coffee, shoot the bull,
Leave mess for others to clean up,
Disappear for rest of day."

COUPONING

Up early, for a Saturday, headed to a coupon class, trying to learn all I can about saving money, living on the retirement budget. I am hoping to learn somethings I can put in my blog to share with everyone. We all need help in this economy. Just heard a lady on the radio say her husband was out of work for a year, just found a job and it's in Idaho. They live in Ohio so it means a move for her kids, sell the house, and help her Jr son graduate early. Note to me: count your blessings.

Today is Sweet Saturday, time to post a recipe but it will have to wait till I return from the class. Check back later.

WORK OR WEIGHT

Sitting here wondering what the topic should be for Wednesdays?

Should I post things about loosing weight, since I need to do more of it, or should I post about projects I need to tackle or have tackled.

Hummm......still pondering this one.

If I do the weight thing, it will put me 'out there', do I really want to spill my guts to the blogger world?

If I do the project thing, it would definitely kick me in gear.

So, would the weight thing, decisions, decisions.

THRIFTY HAIR CARE

One of the things on our list to cut back our expenses is haircuts.

I have always fixed my own hair, why? Well, several reasons, one being I never like it when someone else styles it, always come home and do it over. Another, I cannot sleep on it, so why waste the money?

Since moving to our little town, I have gone to a lady barber when my hair needed help. Her charge to do the same as a salon is half the price. She has retired so I found a walk in salon in the near by bigger town that does a cut for only twelve American dollars, yes, it's less than my other lady.

One of the other things that The Hubbie and I are doing to stretch the time between cuts, is shave each other's neck of that hair that grows below the hair line. We have a home hair cut kit that is years old so we use the electrical unit with no plastic blade added. It keeps his neck looking smooth. It keeps my neck free of those hanging down hairs when the rest is in a pony tail or off of my neck, also it helps being cooler.

A friend of mine has her husband highlight her hair. They use one of the kits with the cap, you know what I mean. Her hair always looks beautiful and congratulations, you're a blond, for a fraction what a salon visit would cost.

Mourn with those that mourn

Monday is suppose to be about me, Me Monday. Today, no, it's about a friend.

A long time friend and her family are in mourning. Their precious grand baby, their only one, Noah, has gone to Heaven. He slipped away a few days ago, probably from SIDS, the silent killer.

The little guy had been sick for a few days, had a bad night, and was found not breathing the next morning. Oh my, what a horror for the young mother and father. The grief for all is overwhelming.

There is a purpose for everything in life, for birth, for death, for sorrow, for breathing. Somethings we just do not understand. To say we are praying seems weak but it's all we can do.

SWEET SATURDAY ONE

Should I? Should I not? Should I? Should I not? Indecision is easy for me.

I'm enjoying my little blog and have toyed with the idea of blogging on a day to day topic schedule. One day I think, okay, next day, no, I just want to use up some of my words for the day and post a picture of my GRAND baby. Me? Oh, yeah!

I'll give it another shot but don't hold me to it. I like being able to be free of a schedule, especially since I'm no longer working.

How about a sweet Saturday? It will be a recipe from my 43 year old collection, inexpensive to make, too, of course.

Here is the first Sweet Saturday recipe, one of my favorites:

Easy Fudge Pie

1 stick of margarine, melted (I use real butter)
1/4 cup plain flour
1/4 cup baking cocoa
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
1 9" frozen pie shell, thawed, pricked with fork

Melt butter
Combine flour, cocoa, sugar stir till blended
Break eggs in bowl, lightly beat with fork till blended
Add flour, coca, sugar, eggs and vanilla to melted butter, stir till well blended, pour into unbaked shell
Bake for 25 minutes in a 350 degree oven

Pie will be soft in middle but will firm as it cools. I put the cool pie in the fridge, serve it cold. Presto. Easy Fudge Pie.

SENIOR MOMENT

"WHERE is my SUNDAY paper?!"

The irate customer calling the newspaper office, loudly demanded to know where her Sunday edition was.

"Madam", said the newspaper employee, "today is Saturday. The Sunday paper is not delivered until tomorrow, on SUNDAY".

There was quite and long pause on the other end of the phone, followed by a ray of recognition as she was heard to mutter, "Well, that explains why no one was at church today".

-----thanks, Mary....copied from an email....it makes me smile everytime I read it!

BUDGET TIP

If you have read this blogg before, you know that we are about to go on Social Security. We have been taking steps to cut our expenses. The plan was to cut everything that we could by 50%.

Well, we have not cut our utilities by 50% but not only did our power bill NOT go up in one of the hottest months in Dixie in several years, it went down. It happened with this one change.

The stairs to the attic are in the garage. We are leaving them open/pulled down 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We also leave the garage door completely or partially opened during the day, all day, until we are in for the night or going to bed.

It is drafting air thru the garage door, up the stairs and out the vent in the roof. The entire house is cooler. The attic is no longer an oven.

This will not work if your stairs are in your house. If they are in your carport, it would work but you might have to remember to pull them up or down daily or whenever, depending on where you live, crime in your area, humidity, etc.

The thermostat is set at 74, the house is staying cooler now than before trying to cool it with it set on 70. It's money in our pocket.

~~~~Please note...the stairs are installed very tight and do not come down without being pulled very hard. Be sure, if you try this, that your stairs are tight. You would not want them to fall on your car or a person.
NINE YEARS AFTER 9/11
Nine years ago, really, has it been that long? It feels like just yesterday.
Although I attempt to not be political on my little blog, today is an exception.
Nine years ago our country was attacked, our people were murdered, lives were shattered, forever changed.
People lost fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, cousins, neighbors, grandmothers, grandfathers in New York City, a field in PA, and in Washington, DC. You can see the pictures of it all in your mind without adding graphics to this blog, we all can.
Why?
Some say it was because we deserved it, others say it was a secret conspiracy, others say it was to start two wars. It really doesn't matter, you know. The fact is that it happened, thousands of innocent Americans were murdered. Yes, I used the m word, murdered. We can debate and speculate but that word does not change, murdered.
Looking back now, after loosing all of them plus the thousands of our soldiers, I wish we had done something more drastic, something more permanent, something more than what we did, are doing.
Looking back, we should have treated this situation like we did before the end of World War II. Yes, we should have used the bomb. I could go on from here and try to defend my position but I will not. It's just my personal opinion, I have no power.
But, think about it, for a moment. Wouldn't that have been better than what we are dealing with today?
The muslims are in control of the world, whether we want to admit it or not. They are like spoiled children who rule the house. If someone or something happens that they do not like, they threaten the world and the world backs down. Everything, and I mean everything, upsets them. The world backs down.
Go back to the paragraph above, the one that starts with But, think about it.....
My prayer is for the 9/11 families today, may they have God's grace to make it through still another remembrance. The hole in their hearts will never heal. It's too big, too deep, but God can give them grace.
It's all I can pray for on this sad, sad, day, 9/11, nine years later.
CLEAN JOKE
A little girl asked her father, "Daddy? Do all fairy tales
He replied, "No, a whole series of fairy tales begins with
'If elected I promise...'"
LABOR ON LABOR DAY
--copied from www
Do you labor on Labor Day, not child birth labor but working labor. We do about every year. It's another of the few catch up days we have each year. So, have a good one, get caught up and ready for another work week.
We are eating out because we have a BOGO free coupon at a steakhouse in the near by bigger town. I'll take eating out anytime over cooking in, how about you?
Celebrate today that we live in a free country, for now, free to work and worship as we choose, for now, free to have a day off, for now. God bless the United States of America and the people that are part of Her great heritage.
4 AM
Is it too early or too late? We went to sleep early, tired from the hospital adventures of the week. What happened? I woke up and could not go back to sleep. Crazy, I know, too much on my mind.
I'm considering starting another blog, for ranting and venting only. It would have to be under a pen name so I could really vent and really rant.
Do you ever feel frustrated? Full up? I do.
No, none of the above will be the title.
The Hubbie's heart is fine so it's onward to find out what is the cause of these attacks.
Good night or is it good morning.
TWO TRUE STORIES
Two Stories BOTH TRUE - and worth reading!!!!
STORY NUMBER ONE
Many years ago, Al Capone virtually owned Chicago . Capone wasn't famous for anything heroic. He was notorious for enmeshing the windy city in everything from bootlegged booze and prostitution to murder.
Capone had a lawyer nicknamed "Easy Eddie." He was Capone's lawyer for a good reason. Eddie was very good! In fact, Eddie's skill at legal maneuvering kept Big Al out of jail for a long time.
To show his appreciation, Capone paid him very well. Not only was the money big, but Eddie got special dividends, as well. For instance, he and his family occupied a fenced-in mansion with live-in help and all of the conveniences of the day. The estate was so large that it filled an entire Chicago City block.
Eddie lived the high life off the Chicago mob and gave little consideration to the atrocity that went on around him.
Eddie did have one soft spot, however. He had a son that he loved dearly. Eddie saw to it that his young son had clothes, cars, and a good education. Nothing was withheld. Price was no object.
And, despite his involvement with organized crime, Eddie even tried to teach him right from wrong. Eddie wanted his son to be a better man than he was.
Yet, with all his wealth and influence, there were two things he couldn't give his son; he couldn't pass on a good name or a good example.
One day, Easy Eddie reached a difficult decision. Easy Eddie wanted to rectify wrongs he had done.
He decided he would go to the authorities and tell the truth about Al "Scarface" Capone, clean up his tarnished name, and offer his son some semblance of integrity. To do this, he would have to testify against The Mob, and he knew that the cost would be great. So, he testified.
Within the year, Easy Eddie's life ended in a blaze of gunfire on a lonely Chicago Street . But in his eyes, he had given his son the greatest gift he had to offer, at the greatest price he could ever pay. Police removed from his pockets a rosary, a crucifix, a religious medallion, and a poem clipped from a magazine.
The poem read:
"The clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop, at late or early hour. Now is the only time you own. Live, love, toil with a will. Place no faith in time. For the clock may soon be still."
STORY NUMBER TWO
World War II produced many heroes. One such man was Lieutenant Commander Butch O'Hare.
He was a fighter pilot assigned to the aircraft carrier Lexington in the South Pacific.
One day his entire squadron was sent on a mission. After he was airborne, he looked at his fuel gauge and realized that someone had forgotten to top off his fuel tank.
He would not have enough fuel to complete his mission and get back to his ship.
His flight leader told him to return to the carrier. Reluctantly, he dropped out of formation and headed back to the fleet.
As he was returning to the mother ship, he saw something that turned his blood cold; a squadron of Japanese aircraft was speeding its way toward the American fleet.
The American fighters were gone on a sortie, and the fleet was all but defenseless. He couldn't reach his squadron and bring them back in time to save the fleet. Nor could he warn the fleet of the approaching danger. There was only one thing to do. He must somehow divert them from the fleet.
Laying aside all thoughts of personal safety, he dove into the formation of Japanese planes. Wing-mounted 50 caliber's blazed as he charged in, attacking one surprised enemy plane and then another. Butch wove in and out of the now broken formation and fired at as many planes as possible until all his ammunition was finally spent.
Undaunted, he continued the assault. He dove at the planes, trying to clip a wing or tail in hopes of damaging as many enemy planes as possible, rendering them unfit to fly.
Finally, the exasperated Japanese squadron took off in another direction.
Deeply relieved, Butch O'Hare and his tattered fighter limped back to the carrier.
Upon arrival, he reported in and related the event surrounding his return. The film from the gun-camera mounted on his plane told the tale. It showed the extent of Butch's daring attempt to protect his fleet. He had, in fact, destroyed five enemy aircraft.
This took place on February 20, 1942 , and for that action Butch became the Navy's first Ace of W.W.II, and the first Naval Aviator to win the Congressional Medal of Honor.
A year later Butch was killed in aerial combat at the age of 29. His home town would not allow the memory of this WW II hero to fade, and today, O'Hare Airport in Chicago is named in tribute to the courage of this great man.
So, the next time you find yourself at O'Hare International, give some thought to visiting Butch's memorial displaying his statue and his Medal of Honor. It's located between Terminals 1 and 2.
SO WHAT DO THESE TWO STORIES HAVE TO DO WITH EACH OTHER?
Butch O'Hare was "Easy Eddie's" son.
CARDIAC CARE FLOOR
You never know what a day brings. Today brought The Hubbie back in the hospital, transported to the local bigger town via ambulance, no working a/c in it, admitted to the Heart Center.
BUT
The cardiologist does not see anything that says heart....all of the tests are coming back great....liver, ekg, xrays, blood, etc. A stress test tomorrow and if that is good, he's home and back to his other drs to try to find out what is causing all of this.
He was so much better tonight....eatting.....teasing the nurses.....one came in and asked his name for verification....he said Leroy...she said uhoh then we have a problem....we all started laughing of course.
So, a surprise stressful day, ends well, with a good laugh.
Even in the valleys God is good.
HOME and 8 HOUR LIFE BREAK
The Hubbie is home, sleeping and has most of the morning. His color is back to normal, as well as his heart rate. PTL. He has ulcerations on his stomach lining. Other tests have been made and we are waiting for the results on those.
One of our balloons burst, too. We were both hoping that health insurance could be cut back and The Hubbie could be closer to retirement. He is a veteran but a letter came saying that yes, he is accepted but must reapply yearly. No change in the health insurance for now so no change in the job schedule.
Meanwhile, here is a website that I really enjoy. I get the email sent to my inbox. This link came today. Sounds like a great idea for young mothers and older ones, too, or anyone who wants a break from living for a few hours.
