TODAY IS THURSDAY

Only a few hours left for 2010. Where did it go? I've always heard that time goes by faster as you age, we're finding out it's true.

Got plans for the New Year Eve?

It is going to be an interesting date, 1/11/11.

Do you think it will be an interesting year?

WHAT DAY IS IT?

You know you are goofing off when you don't know what day it is. Yep, we be goofing off. The Hubbie is off until Jan 4 so we are taking advantage of that time by goofing off, relaxing, resting, doing what we want to do.

Don't get me wrong, we are brushing our teeth, showering, eating, but no stress and no big projects.

So, I looked on the calendar icon and it is Wednesday, now I know. Grin.

SCRAMBLED

Life is simple but is so easily scrambled. Now to attempt to get back on track with this blog, life and the future.

Are you setting goals for the new year? Personally, I hate goals. A long time friend of mine have a running joke. It's a long story but our solution is oh well, just set another goal and then we both laugh.

Goals are made to be conquered or made to be broken, which one will it be for you, me, the world? Time to think about it.

FRIDAY, REALLY?

It's Friday, again, already, really. Oh me, as the GRAND baby says often. Life is going by too fast.

Today is The Hubbie's Christmas party at his job, no, not an office party, a covered dish lunch. He is the only man at this job, he handles it well. They think he is a sweetheart, he is. I'm up because I made a green bean casserole for him to take for the lunch, yawn.

The future seems to be screaming at us like a very fast train, how about you?

We had a financial planner at our kitchen table last night for several hours, he's nice, a son of one of the ladies at church, etc. Tis time to rollover the 401K from the old job, not much money, but all we have, yep, I'm nervous.

The economy is so shaky, the future uncertain, the government out of control, whimperings of those in power taking over what money you do have, bummer.

I realize now why older people put their money in the mattress or buried in a jar in the backyard.

Household Hint

The tip for this Tuesday is a household hint to save time.

We live in a house that has an all electric heat system, terrible because it is like heating with a toaster, I die-gress. Keeping up with dusting is not one of my favorite things but I have found a trick that helps with lampshades.

Buy a lint remover with a handle and a continuous roll of sticky tape. Roll it down the lampshade, across the top and the bottom, presto, the dust clings to the sticky paper and doesn't fall on the table or take flight into the air or your nostrils.

It saves wear and tear on the shades, making them last longer, saving cash.

Staying warm and it's not even officially winter until next week. Burr. It's a good day to dust, maybe not. heehee

BURRRRRRRRR

Today was colder than yesterday, schools were closed, The Hubbie was home, goodie.

The tree is up, all the lights are working, surprising.

The stars are cut out for the tree, a simple tree this year so the GRAND son will not get in trouble for touching.

I'm so cold my nose is numb.

What a life, no complaints, just blogging.

SNOWING

Yep, it's snowing and has been for several hours. The air outside is ice, ice cold.
It is December, even in Dixie.

GRANDMA BURNAM'S COOKIE RECIPE

This is a recipe that I copied from my MIL. It was one of her mother's recipes.

Sift together 3 times:
3 cups of flour*****
1 teaspoon soda
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
Add
2-1/2 cups of sugar
Cut in
1-1/2 cup shortening
Add
3 cups quick rolled oats**; store in air tight container.
When ready to use
2 cups of mix
Add
1 egg
1 Tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Choice of or all three
pecans
chocolate chips
coconut
Drop by spoon onto cookie sheet, 350 degrees till done, number of cookies depends on amount of mix.

*****The first step can be made easier by using self rising flour, not adding soda, salt, baking powder. It's a really old recipe so don't know if there was srf then. Oil does not work, must use shortening.

**DRY not cooked....it's just called oatmeal these days.

Yes, it can be worked up for a jar gift to a teacher or friend, I'd rather have the finished product than the jar. ;)

Happy Sweet Saturday!

TOASTEE

Florida is under a freeze warning, AL, GA, too. Dixie is cold today. The tip(s) for today is how to stay warm.

When you are using the oven, baking or cooking something delicious, turn off the oven but leave the door open when you are finished. The heat will help warm the kitchen instead of escaping up a vent.

We have a garage with a entrance into the house via the laundry room. The laundry room is always a different temp over the garage and the house. We leave the door into the laundry closed year round. It gives insulation between the colder temps of the garage and the house. It also is a buffer in the summer helping the house stay cooler.

Finally, one of the coldest things about winter is waking up and putting on a cold housecoat, shiver. When I was a child, my mother would turn on the oven, heat up our housecoats and bring them to us when she woke us up for the day, no such thing as central heat back then, those days are long past. Now, I put my housecoat in bed with me, under the covers. I leave it there all night, pull it out in the morning and slip it on really fast, warm, not cold, ahhhh.

The thermostat is at 68 and we use blankets when we are watching TV, socks, warm clothes, too, when we are up moving around the house.

Finally, to keep water pipes from freezing, open the cabinet doors before going to bed.

Do you have a hint on how to stay warm, helping save money?

WONDERFUL MONDAY

It's nippy cold in Dixie. I'm enjoying hot coffee, fresh hot from the oven muffins and warm socks. There are things to do later but I be chillin' for a bit before they are conquered.

Do you watch makeover shows on TV or on the web? I do, is that a good thing? Mostly, they are confusing to me.

How do you know what is right for your own personal self? Who has that kind of money to spend on makeup, clothes and hair styles? HA, I say. Shopping at Goodwill and going to the local walk-in barber shop just doesn't cut it, play on words but you get the idea, did this for years, done with it.

It would be great to do one of those shows, however, I think they bring in their friends, relatives, etc., to do the makeovers. Have you EVER known anyone that has done one? Nope, me, either.

Part of changing is thinking about it, determining, enjoying the journey. So, pack up, saddle up and ride that pony to a new start, turning the page so to speak.

This scrolls across my desktop as a screen saver....There is a reason people from your past don't make it to your future. Good one. Maybe that should include clothes, personal style, look, contemplating it all.

Encourage yourself.

MONEY MAKING IDEAS

Here are two suggestions on how to make some extra cash. This is an ongoing pursuit for me, hope it works for you, too.

http://www.hautelook.com/invite/CTuttle921

This is a website that has very young looking fashions but I was able to purchase 3 cute handbags and a bow scarf for $24.00 including shipping. Every time someone signs up, I get $10, not sure if an order has to be placed or not, need to check on that one. Rarely do I spend money on me but I did.

http://www.paybox.me/r/jctuttle2010

This is the second link for a new site that opens in January 2011. It is a service similar to PayPal but the info you give is very limited, only email, name, no bank accounts or credit card numbers required.

IF you are interested, sign up, I get $10, you get your own link to make your own cash.

Sweet!

*********UPDATE....THE PAYBOX MONEY IS NOT CASH BUT RATHER DISCOUNTS FOR FUTURE OFFERS. I WILL BE HOLDING ON TO MINE TO FIND OUT WHAT IS WHAT BUT MAY CANCEL IN THE FUTURE.

WELL MADE PLANS

Since traffic in the near by bigger town has increased so much on Friday, I switched my fun day to Thursday, meaning Friday would be stay at home, accomplish something.

True, plans are made, well made plans but rarely do they come true anymore. I get sidetracked, easily. Today was one of those days. I went to a town south of here for a freebie with a coupon, yesterday, Thursday. The store was out, left my name and number, got the call this morning, it's here, I'll be down next week. You need to come before the coupon expires, which means before 12/06, put on shoes, out the door I go.

The Hubbie also had an RX at the local CVS so stopped in for that one and discovered some great buys!

Funny how Friday can turn into coupon saving, party time. Okay, fun to me. :)

*****UPDATE....decided to not try to upload a pic today. The deal was this...two bags of Hershey Kisses in red and green foil, two boxes of Stove Top Dressing and one manicure/pedicure diy set for....trumpets, please....$.25 at CVS with sale, coupons and extra bucks. Shazam. See what I mean? FUN!!!

MULTI T

I do not have a picture of this tshirt so use your imagination. The man wearing it zipped by me too fast to get a picture.

It was an olive green shirt with a large decal on the back. It was of an outhouse, remember those, ugh, with a man wearing a cowboy hat, boots, sitting in the house. The door was partially opened. His head was sticking out the door with his left hand he was bar b q ing on a grill....part of a newspaper was on the ground as if he had been reading it...the caption....Now THAT's multi tasking.

Maybe its good I didn't get a picture. :)

WEDNESDAY WORDS

As you know, most bloggers go for a wordless Wednesday. I'm going in the opposite direction, words on Wednesday.

Think about this: Do you have a life long friend? Do you have more than one?

Maybe you have a girlfriend that you and she had a baby at the same time.

Maybe you have a girlfriend that you met as a child, still in touch with after years.

Or

Is your husband your best friend?

Take time today to remember the memories you have of them. It will ease your stress, don't know why, but it does.

Perhaps it's because we count our blessings, taking us to a time we were happier, younger, stronger. Life is good and it's made better by the memories of our friends.
